Gift Aid

Add 25% to your donation, free

If you pay UK tax, Gift Aid lets the charity reclaim 25p from HMRC for every pound you give. It costs you nothing. It needs one signed form, which you can print from this page.

One thing is still being confirmed. A Gift Aid declaration has to name the single charity that receives your donation and makes the claim to HMRC. Donations for this challenge land in the Rotary Club of Rossendale account and are passed on from there, so Rotary would be the claimant rather than the three charities separately. We are confirming with the Rotary treasurer that they are registered with HMRC for Gift Aid, and the exact name to print. Please hold off signing until that is settled, or get in touch and we will tell you when it is.

How it works

Gift Aid is a government scheme that lets a charity reclaim the basic rate tax you have already paid on the money you donate. A donation of £100 becomes £125 to the charity, and you are not charged a penny more.

A bank transfer on its own cannot capture this, because the scheme needs a declaration from you, with your name and home address, confirming you are a UK taxpayer. That is all the form below is.

Before you sign

You need to be able to say yes to this:

  • You pay UK Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax.
  • The tax you pay in this tax year is at least as much as the Gift Aid all the charities you support will reclaim on your donations. If it is not, you are responsible for paying the difference to HMRC.

Council tax and VAT do not count. If you are not sure, or you have stopped paying tax since you last signed a declaration, it is safer not to tick it.

Print the form

Printing this page gives you the declaration on its own, without the rest of the website. Fill it in by hand and sign it.

Gift Aid declaration

Tessa's Ultra Challenge, 5 to 6 September 2026

Boost your donation by 25p of Gift Aid for every £1 you donate.

Gift Aid is reclaimed by the charity from the tax you pay for the current tax year. Your address is needed to identify you as a current UK taxpayer.

I want to Gift Aid my donation of £ and any donations I make in the future or have made in the past 4 years to Rotary Club of Rossendale.

I am a UK taxpayer and understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year it is my responsibility to pay any difference.

My details

Please notify the charity if you:

  • want to cancel this declaration
  • change your name or home address
  • no longer pay sufficient tax on your income and/or capital gains

If you pay Income Tax at the higher or additional rate and want to receive the additional tax relief due to you, you must include all your Gift Aid donations on your Self Assessment tax return or ask HM Revenue and Customs to adjust your tax code.

When you have signed it

Hand it to a Rotary collector at Marl Pits on the morning of Sunday 6 September, or get in touch through Rotary Club of Rossendale and they will tell you where to send it. Please also make the bank transfer itself, using the reference Tess RTHW. This form does not move any money.

Questions people ask

Does it cost me anything?

No. The charity reclaims tax you have already paid. Your donation is unchanged.

What if I pay higher rate tax?

The charity still reclaims the basic rate. You can claim the difference back yourself through your Self Assessment return or by asking HMRC to adjust your tax code, as the form says.

Can I Gift Aid a cash donation in a bucket?

Only if it is identified as yours, which in practice means filling in a form like this one at the same time. That is why there will be forms at Marl Pits on the day.

What if I have already donated?

The declaration covers donations you have made in the past four years as well as future ones, so it is not too late. The donation details are here.
